Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
