Disaster Hits as Unintentional Blast at Law Enforcement Facility in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Results in Nine Fatalities
A devastating explosion at a law enforcement facility in Indian-administered Kashmir has resulted in the loss of nine individuals and harm to thirty-two others, according to authority reports.
The occurrence happened when a stockpile of seized explosive materials inadvertently exploded during handling procedures.
Sequence of Events
The blast happened on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam security post, where blast substances confiscated in Faridabad in the northern province of Haryana were being kept briefly.
Regional police chief announced that the explosives were pending scientific analysis when a "extremely tragic" incident during processing caused their blast at approximately 11:20 PM local.
Authority Declarations
Law enforcement officials confirmed that this was an "inadvertent blast" and not a militant action. "Alternative theories regarding the origin of this event is unwarranted," emphasized the police chief during a press briefing.
The security post suffered significant harm from the detonation, with adjacent buildings also being impacted by the intense detonation.
Impact and Victims
Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and turned into burned shells, with wreckage spread across the site," according to official reports.
"The intensity of the detonation was so extreme that some physical fragments were recovered from adjacent homes, approximately 100-200 metres away the law enforcement facility," stated an police contact.
The bulk of the victims were police officers, along with forensic personnel, two investigative imaging experts, and a clothing professional who was present with the personnel.
Government Action
The territory's Administrative Head stated condolences and declared that an inquiry had been commissioned into the catastrophic occurrence.
"I have directed a inquiry to establish the cause of the unintentional blast. Deeply anguished by the death of valuable individuals due to exceptionally devastating unintentional explosion at Nowgam law enforcement facility in the Srinagar area. My sympathies to the grieving relatives. I wish for speedy recovery of the injured," stated the leader on digital platforms.
