NBA game action

Miami scored 86 first-half scores versus the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat claimed a crushing 146 to 114 victory over the Grizzlies in their initial basketball game after player Rozier was arrested for alleged unlawful gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Billups was additionally arrested as part of a sweeping federal probe into illegal gambling. Both men deny the claims.

However, the Heat were focused as they recorded 86 first-half points to lead the Grizzlies by thirty-nine at halftime, the largest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year existence.

Adebayo led the way with twenty-four scores and later stated Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Adebayo said. "You support him through and through. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Rozier is a person who is very dear to everyone. He has made a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he faces this."

The Trail Blazers also won their first game since the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter taking over as interim coach in Billups' non-attendance and leading the squad to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Chauncey and his coaching style," Tiago said. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Arrests

Addressing the arrests for the first time, league head Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the integrity of the game," he informed a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

Silver further mentioned an NBA investigation into Rozier's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he played for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the betting companies," he continued.

"We investigated that situation and were very transparent about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA can't do.

"So, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"And 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
