Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
