Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is a possibility. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won England's top flight last season, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I will never coach a different club on English soil. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, so I might decide down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often a very good mood in the building. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that took the title last term. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
