Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known failings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
