The Details Known Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 people perished and more than 40 sustained injuries when attackers shot at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident local police are describing as a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, authorities have confirmed the death toll is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were transported to medical facilities.

The deceased are yet to be officially identified, but police believe their ages span from 10 and 87 years old.

Listed are the victims who have been identified so far.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Known as a father-of-five, he worked as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and acquaintances spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member said.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.

She described the moments leading up to the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Publicly, the Foreign Minister declared that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.

One Child

A child who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, as per reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number are still under care, with a number in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two officers who responded to the attack.

One of the injured is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he described the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He told reporters he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
