The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several key changes:

  • Every squad includes only eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
